Dear Cosmic Writers community,
The magic of creative writing, we believe, lies in its ability to meet so many different needs. It's an outlet for self-expression. It's a bridge for creating connection between peers. It's a tool for discovering, solidifying, and advocating for one's values.
And beyond these extraordinary benefits, we think creative writing is something else: the solution to the literacy crisis.
Throughout the US, only a third of students are reading and writing on grade level; our country’s 2025 literacy scores were the lowest they’ve been in 30 years. But for the 10,000 students we've reached since our launch in 2022, that's not the case. Our young writers have learned how to articulate themselves with clarity and confidence. They have developed their critical thinking skills. And they have put these abilities to use in remarkable projects ranging from college essays to novels.
Cosmic Writers isn't just a nonprofit; it's a movement to ensure that children learn to read and write in a way that helps them succeed. In 2026, we're poised to bring thousands more young people into that movement via our workshops, mentorships, and educator materials, which are now utilized in classrooms and community organizations around the world.
